Meeting customers’ evolving sovereignty needs with Mendix and AWS European Sovereign Cloud

The strategic collaboration has already seen Mendix, a Siemens company, use  AWS GovCloud for its US business, which helped the platform support customers in highly regulated industries like aerospace and defense. “So when AWS decided to launch a sovereign cloud for Europe,” says Mendix CEO Raymond Kok, “we were excited about the prospect of reaching new customers in banking and financial services, but also aerospace and defense organizations here in Europe.”

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is the only fully featured, independently operated sovereign cloud designed to meet the needs of European governments and enterprises. But it’s about more than data residency and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), continues Kok: “The requirements, especially in highly regulated industries, are evolving all the time, like DORA [the Digital Operational Resilience Act] in the financial sector. With the combination of Mendix and the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, we’ll be able to meet these requirements.”

Adding the AWS European Sovereign Cloud to the established Mendix and AWS offering will help even more organizations “turn ideas into tangible outcomes quickly,” says Smeets. “Customers can build on Mendix with confidence knowing that using the AWS European Sovereign Cloud we can address their sovereignty requirements on an operational, data, and technical level.”  

Kok adds, “We have a rich history of working with customers that have very stringent sovereignty needs, but this isn’t something Mendix can do independently. We’re built on AWS, so we address sovereignty together, and together we have a strong proposition for customers. We’re looking forward to bringing more choice and control to organizations in Europe with AWS European Sovereign Cloud.”
